Called to the Irish Bar in 1986 admitted as a Senior Counsel in 2002

As a mediator he draws upon the experience acquired from decades of involvement in a wide and diverse range of disputes. He has the benefit of having seen disputes from the perspectives of both plaintiffs and defendants and has an appreciation of the pressures that each side to a dispute can labour under.   

Legal Career

  • A broad civil, commercial and criminal law practice.
  • A public law practice in human rights, immigration, housing and discrimination cases.
  • Specializations in property, landlord & tenant, construction, copyright and media law. 
  • Acted in fraud cases in areas of insurance, public procurement, stockbroking and fisheries regulation.
  • Represented clients at official inquiries and at inquests.
  • Appeared before parliamentary committees.

He has acted for the victims of the Dublin & Monaghan Bombings and for the victims of the Stardust Ballroom Fire at various official inquires. He has appeared at the Morris Tribunal of Inquiry into Garda Activities, the Mahon Tribunal of Inquiry into Planning Matters and the Moriarty Tribunal of Inquiry into Political Donations. He also appeared at the Murphy Inquiry into Sex Abuse in Swimming.

He is a former chairperson of Threshold - National Housing Organisation.  Prior to qualifying as a lawyer he worked in the fields of education and community development. He is a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, Irish Branch.
